Higher Ground grew out of our community’s effort to serve the survivors of Tropical Storm Irene and is working to keep our community involved in the recovery process. Our mission comprises three goals:
- To provide services and funds to meet the immediate and long-term physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Irene survivors
- To develop disaster replacement housing for those who lost their homes in the flood
- To prepare our community for future disasters and to assist in disaster response.
Higher Ground was founded in October 2011 to help Williamstown residents affected by the August 28, 2011 flooding of Tropical Storm Irene, particularly those 300 residents of The Spruces Mobile Home Park displaced from their homes. Higher Ground’s focus is to work with Spruces residents as they move forward toward recovery.
